About The Author
Dr Omar Hassouna
Dr. Omar J. Hassouna is a highly experienced General Practitioner with nearly five decades of service within the National Health Service (NHS). His medical career began in London in 1976.
Following his initial attachment, he undertook extensive hospital training across a wide range of specialties, including paediatrics, acute geriatric medicine, and psychiatry. As a medical registrar, he gained substantial experience in diabetes, haematology, respiratory medicine, cardiology, and gastroenterology, along with exposure to gynaecology and obstetrics.
In 1983, Dr. Hassouna transitioned into general practice, becoming a full-time General Practitioner in 1984. He established and led several specialist GP clinics, including antenatal and postnatal care, hypertension, diabetes, respiratory medicine, thyroid disease, and gout. He also founded a Travel Clinic, providing comprehensive travel risk assessments and vaccinations.
Between 2007 and 2010, Dr. Hassouna served as Chair of Local General Practitioners, strengthening collaboration between clinicians and healthcare administrators. He also worked extensively in out-of-hours services and contributed to Urgent Care Centres. Additionally, he served as a Police Surgeon and worked with social services assessing disability and mobility.
Dr. Hassouna obtained postgraduate diplomas in Dermatology (Cardiff University) and Diabetes Care (Warwick University). Motivated by the increasing strain on the NHS, he has written practical, case-based books aimed at improving diagnostic reasoning, efficiency, and patient safety.
