‘Dr Lisa Das has written the definitive guide to managing IBS. Drawing on her many years of experience as a UK-leading gastroenterologist and IBS specialist, she has created a brilliant and insightful book offering thoughtful, comprehensive advice and evidence-based solutions to an incredibly frustrating, challenging, and complex condition. This much-needed resource to enhance patient understanding of not only how the gut normally functions but also explains in easy-to-understand language a range of cutting-edge concepts which explain how symptoms can occur due to abnormalities in the way that the gut and the brain communicate with each other or due to abnormalities in gut bacteria. This book is absolutely essential reading for anyone wanting to learn how to navigate life with IBS’ – Professor Qasim Aziz, Professor of Neurogastroenterology, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary College University of London‘Lisa Das is a highly experienced and empathic clinician who has been clinically active with a wide spectrum of IBS patients for many years. With this book she has collated the science of what is a complex disorder and produced an understandable and accurate picture. Building from those principles, what follows is an extremely practical guide to the condition and how to navigate it on a daily basis. Avoiding the pitfalls of fad diets and knowing when to explore the complementary approaches of what may work for the patient as an individual. I commend the practicality and patient-centeredness of this book and will recommend it to patients in our care’ – Professor Anton EmmanuelThis book is an absolute must read for every health care professional who has been asked for advice from their patients suffering from symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. More importantly, it has the potential to become the A-Z of IBS, or the “go to” resource for anyone who has been affected by this common, life altering disorder, to help them improve their quality of life. It is written in a clear, inclusive style by an author who is so obviously both enormously experienced and sincerely empathetic with her patients.
