He received an M.S. at the University of Arkansas and an M.D. at the University of Missouri and has been in private practice in the Kansas City area for over thirty years. He is an associate clinical professor at the University of Kansas and has published numerous scientific papers. He is an amateur historian, an avid fisherman, and an accomplished gardener.
