Summary

This book provides a pedagogical introduction to the likely sources of these neutrinos, their propagation and detection mechanisms. Detection of high energy neutrinos of extragalactic origin has led to an interdisciplinary field of research, involving astronomy, astrophysics and particle physics. An extensive review of various detectors and the observations is provided that consolidates the latest findings. Above a few tens of TeVs, neutrinos are conceived as more reliable messengers for astr…

About The Author

Debanjan Bose

Dr. Debanjan Bose has made important contributions in high energy astrophysics and astroparticle physics during his research career which spans from the year 2000 till date. He has worked in the areas of very high energy gamma-ray astronomy, neutrino astronomy, x-ray astronomy and neutrino physics. Currently, he is working on multi-messenger astronomy, cosmic-ray physics and astroparticle physics. Dr. Bose obtained Ph.D. from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, in the year 2007. He has worked for MAGIC and IceCube collaborations as a postdoctoral fellow for almost ten years. Currently, he is a member of Hyper-Kamiokande collaboration. He has made significant contributions in instrumentation, software development and data analysis for these experiments. At present, Dr. Bose is working as Ramanujan Fellow at S N Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata, India.

Prof. Subhendu Rakshit works on phenomenological aspects of particlephysics. He has worked on diverse areas: supersymmetry, Higgs physics, effective field theories, precision tests of the standard model and beyond, dark matter, neutrino physics, etc. At present, he is interested in multi-messenger astronomy through neutrinos and gravitational waves. He did his Ph.D. in 2001 from the University of Calcutta. After postdoctoral positions in India, Israel and Germany, he joined IIT Indore in 2009, where he is currently a full professor in the Department of Physics.
