Daryln Brewer Hoffstot has a master of fine arts from Bennington College. She worked in New York City after college until she and her family moved to a farm near Pittsburgh. She contributes regularly to the Pittsburgh Quarterly, where these columns have been published, and to The New York Times. She is regularly a finalist for the Golden Quill award from the Western Pennsylvania Press Club. She lives in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
