About The Author
Cristian Bonetto
Travel writer Cristian Bonetto, author of Rome Precincts, now focuses on Venice, a city he finds endlessly fascinating due to its hidden depths. Born in Australia, Venice feels like home to Cristian because his father was born and raised in the Veneto region. The dialect and cuisine evoke cherished childhood memories filled with Venetian stories, flavors, and pride.
Cristian’s writing career began in theater, where he ran a small company and produced comedies. In 2003, his play Il Cortile (The Courtyard) received an Australia Council grant, leading to performances in several Italian cities. After briefly writing scripts for Australian soaps Home and Away and Neighbours, Cristian transitioned to travel writing. Since 2006, he has authored nearly 50 Lonely Planet guides covering destinations such as Italy, Scandinavia, the USA, Singapore, and his hometown of Melbourne. He also contributes to The Telegraph.
