Critics Review
“The Bible in 52 Weeks for Black Women offers readers an opportunity to move beyond simply reading the biblical text through traditional interpretations and to discover how our own stories, struggles, faith, strength, and spiritual journeys are reflected in Scripture. Rev. Courtney invites us to do something that is both powerful and necessary–to see ourselves in the text. This is a much-needed book.” – Rev. Dr. Jessica Kendall Ingram, Founder, The Ingram Difference Spiritual Renewal Center
“The Bible in 52 Weeks for Black Women by Rev. Courtney Clayton Jenkins gives us permission to bring our Blackness, our womanhood, our faith, our questions, our wounds, our wisdom, and our joy to the Word of God. This book reminds us that God is concerned not only about our sacrifice and service, but also about our bodies, our rest, our liberation, and our wholeness. This is a beautiful resource for journeying through the Bible while seeing ourselves as beloved daughters of God whose experiences, stories and voices matter.” – Rev. Dr. Toni G. Alvarado, Grace Church International, Atlanta, GA, Harmonize Your Life Women’s Self-Care Network
“For generations, Black women have been keepers of the sacred flame, tending the fire of faith for families, communities, and churches. Rev. Courtney Clayton Jenkins offers a remarkable companion that invites Black women to read Scripture with confidence, curiosity, and conviction, weaving together biblical scholarship, pastoral wisdom, and womanist insight into a devotional journey that nourishes mind, spirit, and soul.” – Rev. Gina M. Stewart, DMin, Senior Pastor, Christ Missionary Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee Immediate Past President, Lott Carey Foreign Convention
“Pastor Courtney Clayton Jenkins has skillfully put pen to paper, encouraging us to engage God’s Word with greater depth and exploration. She reminds us that we can, and should, see ourselves in these ancient stories, not simply through imagination, but because our lives, experiences, questions, and faith are reflected in the text. The Bible in 52 Weeks for Black Women is both impactful and creative, offering Black women an accessible and meaningful way to engage Scripture, deepen their understanding, and learn to feed themselves from the Word of God.” – Dr. Sabrina J. Ellis, Director of Student Affairs and Teacher, The Potter’s House School of Ministry, Dallas, Texas
“The Bible in 52 Weeks for Black Women is more than a devotional–it is a timely companion for women seeking a deeper, more authentic relationship with God and Scripture. As a Senior Pastor and Theological Educator with a womanist lens, Reverend Courtney Clayton Jenkins reminds us that Scripture is not merely to be received and quoted, but explored with courage, curiosity, and conviction. She has crafted a thoughtful, accessible resource that invites readers to move beyond secondhand faith into deeper biblical engagement that informs the mind, nurtures the soul, and strengthens the journey of faith.” – Rev. LaKeesha Walrond, PhD, former president New York Theological Seminary
“As long as I have known Courtney, as a Spelman student, she has been reading, studying, probing, and wrestling with the Word of God, seeking a greater understanding of it and a deeper relationship with God. It is because she has dared to wrestle with the text that she can invite others on a journey of knowing God in a personal and authentic way through this Bible Study.” – Dr. Cynthia L. Hale, Senior Pastor, Ray of Hope Christian Church, Decatur, Georgia
