About Claire Saxby
Claire Saxby was born in Melbourne and moved to Newcastle as a toddler. At ten, she moved to Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea. She attended numerous schools across Australia before studying podiatry in Melbourne. For several years, Claire worked in community health while also writing for children. Her books are primarily categorized into animals and their environments, history, and humour.
Claire’s work has garnered several accolades, including a CBCA Honour Book, a NSW Premier’s Literary Award, a SCBWI Crystal Kite Award, an Environment Award for Children’s Literature, an Educational Publishing Award, and multiple Whitley Awards. She possesses a broad curiosity and is passionate about fostering curiosity and wonder in others. Claire currently works part-time in a bookshop.
About Jess Racklyeft
Jess Racklyeft is an illustrator who creates a range of items including picture books, paintings, prints, pins, and cards, primarily using watercolours. She works from her home studio in Melbourne, accompanied by her cat and dog, and sometimes her children join her. Her work frequently incorporates collage, either on paper or digitally assembled, along with ample ink. Jess strives to explore new techniques and processes with each book to continually challenge and develop her skills.
Before transitioning to full-time illustration, Jess spent nearly a decade in publishing sales. Since then, she has received several illustration awards, including two CBCA Notable Picture Book of the Year awards. Her illustrations are now available in bookshops and libraries throughout Australia. Jess happily spends her days in her art studio or visiting local story times with her two young children.
