Critics Review

Written with compassion and understanding, this book speaks directly to the 21st century college experience. Packed with a diverse array of personal stories and practical strategies, this book is a must have for anyone heading off to college. * Yung Pueblo, New York Times bestselling author *Easy to read, easy to navigate, and chock-full of quality information, Mental Health 101 is the go-to resource for any college-age student (and their parent) who wants to be empowered to navigate the journey toward mental health. I’ll be recommending this book over and over! * Tina Payne Bryson, Co-Author of The Whole-Brain Child, Founder of The Center for Connection *This invaluable guide is for anyone navigating the complexities of mental health while pursuing higher education. Whether you’re a student or parent, this book is like having a comforting, experienced friend with a roadmap to support you through each challenge with practical expert advice and compassionate insights. An essential resource to help students not just survive, but truly thrive, both academically and personally. * Dr. Laura Markham, Author of Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids *The authors unparalleled insights into navigating the immense pressures of young adulthood-particularly the college transition-is nothing short of transformative. At a time when both students and parents face overwhelming emotional and psychological challenges, this guide is an essential resource. The authors ability to address the often-overlooked psychological dynamics with parent, child in the high-school to college transition makes this work groundbreaking and truly invaluable for families seeking a path to success during this critical phase. Beyond the book, on a personal note, our foundation has worked very closely with Dr Aguirre and we have witnessed first hand the practical ideas outlined in the book. * Ryan Wolfington, Co-founder of Inspiring Children Foundation, President of Jewel, Inc *Mental Health 101 is my favorite kind of resource:refreshingly concrete and practical. This is exactly the kind of book that college students (and their parents) need. The authors answer hundreds of questions directly and honestly. How do I leave a voicemail for a therapist? What’s the difference between college “partying” and a real problem with substances? What do I do when my roommate is really struggling? In a time when young people are sorting through so much information (much of it flat out wrong), this book will be a go-to-and a life saver-for many. * Lynn Lyons, Psychotherapist and author of Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents: 7 Ways to Stop the Worry Cycle and Raise Courageous & Independent Children *In this extremely well-timed and well-written book, Mental Health 101, authors Christopher Willard, Blaise Aguirre, and Chelsie Green address the mental health crisis on college campuses head on. Offering a ton of great information based on research, years of combined professional experience, and interviews with experts in the field, this book gives people the tools they need to navigate support services, classes, residential life, therapy, self-care and transitions to and from school. I am amazed by how many practical, useful strategies and tools they have packed into this incredible book! I will certainly be recommending Mental Health 101 to my clients and my colleagues as a ‘must-have’ resource. * Sharon Saline, Clinical psychologist and author of What Your ADHD Child Wishes You Knew: Working Together to Empower Kids in School and Life *
