About The Author
Charles C. Yost
Charles C. Yost is assistant professor of medieval history at Hillsdale College. He earned his PhD in Medieval Studies at the University of Notre Dame in 2019 and his MA in Medieval Studies at Columbia University in 2012. At Hillsdale College, he was named “Professor of the Year” in 2024.
Although his specific areas of research are the historic relations between the Byzantine Empire and the Latin West, the problem of the schism, and Byzantine intellectuals who supported communion with Rome, he has taught and written broadly on medieval and Byzantine civilization in both popular and academic venues.
In 2025, his study comparing Rome and Constantinople in the discourse of pro-union Byzantine intellectuals appeared in the journal Pietas. His major study on the thought of the last great Byzantine unionist, John Plousiadenos (d. 1500), will appear in Speculum, the premier anglophone journal of Medieval Studies, in April 2026.
