Critics Review

The modern paramedic undeniably requires a solid foundation in pharmacology. Gone are the days of merely reciting signs and symptoms and referring to protocols for out-of-hospital treatment. As a self-confessed pharmacology enthusiast, having first studied the field prior to commencing my paramedicine journey some 25 years ago, I find this science both fascinating and essential.

Pharmacology is often dismissed as overly complex, but with perseverance and a strong understanding of physiology, it becomes enlightening. I believe that this book has the potential to ignite a healthy curiosity and respect for pharmacology among paramedics. It is well-written and accessible, with a straightforward approach that doesn’t shy away from necessary details. The diagrams are clear and insightful, offering brilliant explanations of common drugs. Case studies provide paramedic-specific knowledge and practical applications of pharmacology and tables clearly lay out information to enable easy comparisons.

Massive praise to the authors, this book is a gem! Regardless of your experience or knowledge level, this book has something for everyone. It will undoubtedly enhance your understanding and appreciation of pharmacology. I challenge you not to learn from reading this book!

This essential text will be the go-to resource for student and newly qualified paramedics getting to grips with the UK paramedic drug formulary.

It provides easily accessible essential information for paramedics administering medications in the emergency or urgent care setting, as well as a fantastic overview of the medications used in day-to-day paramedic practice. Information related to administration and dosing in special populations and for patients with concurrent medical conditions is presented clearly and efficiently to facilitate efficient study or revision.

This book provides clear and comprehensive information relating to the legal foundations on which medications are administered by paramedics in prehospital and urgent care settings. It goes on to discuss the core concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as they have relevance to UK paramedic practice. Important issues relating to adverse drug reactions and administration of medications to those with pre-existing medical conditions make this a fantastic resource for student and newly qualified paramedics.

The text dives into the underpinning concepts of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and much more. This is a great resource for those gaining competence in prehospital medication management and administration.
