Critic Reviews

"J. C. Ryle is one of my favorite nineteenth-century preachers. . . He will consistently teach you the Scriptures, saturate your soul in the gospel, and fill your heart with the glories of Christ. These savory selections from Ryle's consistently Christ-centered, experiential, and practical sermons provide excellent reading for personal devotions, family worship, and meditations during spare moments. Enjoy your daily visits this year with Bishop Ryle!"

--Joel R. Beeke - Chancellor and Professor of Homiletics & Systematic Theology - Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary

"Clear as a bell and wise as an owl, J. C. Ryle is a gem of a teacher. He fixes your eyes on Jesus and leaves you worshipping. I can't recommend him highly enough."

-Revd Dr. Michael Reeves - President and Professor of Theology - Union School of Theology

"In an age when fleeting trends often overshadow enduring truth, Our Great Redeemer offers a steadfast anchor for your heart and mind. Each daily reflection--rich with J. C. Ryle's clear and Christ-centered wisdom--masterfully distills the hope, healing, and promises of the gospel. . . Whether you are new to Ryle's works or a long-time admirer, this devotional will strengthen your faith and invite you to savor the riches of your relationship with Christ. I heartily recommend it to all who seek to grow in their understanding and love of our great Savior."

--Justin S. Holcomb, bishop, Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida; cohost of the White Horse Inn radio show and podcast

"I can hardly imagine five minutes better spent each day than sitting at Bishop Ryle's feet as he opens the word and warms the heart."

-Jonathan Landry Cruse - Pastor, Community Presbyterian Church

"J. C. Ryle was the greatest champion of evangelical truth in the Victorian church, and his works continue to feed souls more than a century after his death in 1900. Our Great Redeemer, judiciously complied by Bryan Schrank from sermons, books, and tracts, offers a daily dose of Ryle's spiritual instruction in his characteristically direct, practical, and Christ-exalting style. . . Ryle's ministry was driven by a desire to 'do good to souls, ' and Schrank's new devotional is calculated to do just that."

--Bennett W. Rogers, author, A Tender Lion: The Life, Ministry, and Message of J. C. Ryle

"Ryle is one of the great evangelical authors of the nineteenth century. . . His own continuity with the past and his steadfast love for the gospel, both to be found in abundance in this devotional, are much needed in our day to shape both our minds and our hearts. This devotional is a great means toward that end."

--Michael A. G. Azad Haykin, professor of church history, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
