Brother Lawrence
Born Nicholas Herman of Lorraine, Lawrence joined the Discalced Carmelites in Paris and spent much of his adult life working as a cook in the monastery. He is best known for his writings and conversations on the practice of the presence of God, which were compiled and published posthumously. His simple and practical approach to spirituality has made him a beloved figure among Christians of various traditions.
