Brother Lawrence
Born Nicholas Herman of Lorraine, Lawrence joined the Discalced Carmelites in Paris and spent much of his adult life working as a cook in the monastery. He is best known for his writings and conversations on the practice of the presence of God, which were compiled and published posthumously.
