Description

Eddie (Edith) McGrath is, in her opinion, a very ordinary person, but when the results of a national essay competition are announced it seems Eddie is a winner.

Of course, her school, family and friends are all delighted but Eddie… well she’s not so sure that the prize is something to be pleased about. She will have to not only come up with a civic project but will have to present the work at Parliament. Meeting the Prime Minister is an exciting prospect – talking to a large crowd, however, is terrifying.

But her decision to turn down the prize brings a whole raft of new stresses. While this is going on, her friends are having issues of their own, some that may end up adding to Eddie’s list of problems. They involve six hens, five old cats, a local rest home resident and an arthritic dog.

A spirited story about the times when what we think we don’t want, turns out to be more than we could hope for.
