Kennedy is quoted in 1936, spouting “I have no political ambition for myself or for my children,” while Jackie Bouvier maintained during her engagement to a man named John Husted, “Don’t pay any attention to any of the drivel you hear about me and Jack Kennedy. It doesn’t mean a thing.” She married John F. Kennedy a year later.
