Bob Layton

Bob Layton began his career as a prolific inker for Charlton, Marvel, and DC Comics. He first collaborated with David Michelinie on Claw the Unconquered and Star Hunters. Their writing work on Iron Man from 1978-1982 and 1987-1989 is considered one of the most influential interpretations of the character. In 1990, Layton moved to Valiant Comics, where he served as a writer, artist, and editor, co-creating characters like X-O Manowar and eventually becoming editor-in-chief. He has since returned to Marvel and DC for freelance work, including reunion projects with Michelinie such as Iron Man: Bad Blood (2000), Iron Man: Legacy of Doom (2008), and Iron Man: The End (2009).

David Michelinie

David Michelinie began his writing career on DC horror titles before moving to Marvel. With co-writer and inker Bob Layton, he established key aspects of Iron Man’s character, including his battle with alcoholism, specialized armor variants, and vendetta against Doctor Doom. Michelinie’s writing, known for its blend of action, suspense, and humor, distinguished not only Iron Man but also Amazing Spider-Man. He introduced the character Venom with artist Todd McFarlane and wrote the first Venom limited series, Lethal Protector. His tenure as the writer for Amazing Spider-Man was the second-longest, after Stan Lee’s. He also authored tie-in titles Spectacular Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Spider-Man. Michelinie later moved to DC to write Action Comics before returning to Marvel for writing collaborations with Bob Layton on Iron Man: Legacy of Doom and Iron Man: The End.

John Byrne

John Byrne has been a continuous presence in the comics industry as both a writer and artist since 1975. After collaborating with Chris Claremont on Iron Fist, the duo went on to produce a highly acclaimed run on X-Men. Byrne’s work on Fantastic Four earned comparisons to the original Stan Lee and Jack Kirby issues for its imaginative storylines and dynamic art. He also launched Alpha Flight into its own series. In 1986, Byrne revamped DC’s Superman, a project recognized by Time magazine. His significant contributions to the Marvel Universe include celebrated runs on Captain America, Iron Man, Sensational She-Hulk, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Thing. His 21st-century work includes IDW’s Star Trek and Angel.

Mark Bright

Mark Bright is known for his work as a regular artist on Solo Avengers and West Coast Avengers, as well as his collaborations with writer Christopher Priest on titles such as Falcon, Power Man and Iron Fist, and Quantum and Woody. He has also drawn Marvel’s G.I. Joe and several DC flagship characters in Action Comics Weekly, Batman, and Green Lantern.

Barry Windsor-Smith

Barry Windsor-Smith is best known for his work on Marvel’s Conan and Red Sonja. He also illustrated memorable stories for Uncanny X-Men, Iron Man, and Daredevil, notably revealing Wolverine’s origin in the “Weapon X” serial. Windsor-Smith has also published several art books in the style of Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

John Romita Jr.

John Romita Jr. is a celebrated modern comic artist, following in the footsteps of his father. His acclaimed runs on Iron Man, Uncanny X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man, and Daredevil established his distinct artistic voice. His work on Wolverine and World War Hulk is noted for its explosive style. In addition to Eternals with Neil Gaiman, Romita Jr. collaborated with Mark Millar on the creator-owned series Kick-Ass. He has returned to Amazing Spider-Man for storylines such as “New Ways To Die” and “Character Assassination,” helped relaunch Avengers with Brian Michael Bendis, and contributed to Avengers vs. X-Men. He has also worked on DC characters like Superman and Batman before returning to Marvel.
