About The Author

Birgit Vogel-Heuser

Prof. Vogel-Heuser (*1961) researches system and software engineering and the modelling of distributed and reliable embedded systems. She focuses on challenges arising from the increasing demand for customised products in plant engineering. Hybrid processes and heterogeneously distributed, intelligent systems including human-machine interaction are also part of her research.

Birgit Vogel-Heuser obtained her diploma in electrical engineering in 1987 and her Dr.-Ing. in mechanical engineering in 1990 at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. She gained over ten years of industrial experience in industrial automation. After various professorships, she was appointed to the Chair of Automation and Information Systems at the Technical University of Munich in 2009. Her research focuses on developable field automation and corresponding architectures for manufacturing and logistics systems. She is a Senior Member of the IEEE, IEEE RAS Distinguished Lecturer, Co-Chair of the IEEE RAS TC Digital Manufacturing and Human-Centered Automation and a member of the National Academy of Science and Engineering in Germany (acatech).
