Rom Epic Collection: The Original Marvel Years Vol. 1

Bill Mantlo began his Marvel career on Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, where he introduced White Tiger, one of the industry’s earliest Hispanic superheroes. He went on to write for nearly every Marvel title, with some of his most memorable work appearing in Incredible Hulk and Spectacular Spider-Man. Mantlo also launched Cloak and Dagger in a pair of miniseries and guided Alpha Flight through some of its most challenging storylines. He demonstrated his skill at integrating licensed properties into the Marvel Universe by writing Micronauts and Rom: Spaceknight from beginning to end. At DC, he wrote the Invasion miniseries, a major crossover event.

Sal Buscema, after starting as an inker for his older brother John, went on to pencil Captain America, Defenders, Incredible Hulk, and more. Known for his ability to meet tight deadlines, he contributed to a variety of genres. His work in the 1970s spanned from Ms. Marvel and Nova to Sub-Mariner and the first appearance of Spider-Woman in Marvel Spotlight. He was the sole artist on Spectacular Spider-Man for over one hundred issues and penciled Spider-Man’s adventures in Marvel Team-Up, where he and writer Bill Mantlo introduced Captain Jean DeWolff. After working on more team-ups in The Thing’s Marvel Two-in-One, he reunited with his brother John on Steve Englehart’s Fantastic Four. Later, he provided inks for Tom DeFalco’s Spider-Girl titles and the Thunderstrike miniseries.
