Critics Review

The Inner Science of Buddhist Practice is a most valuable addition to the growing body of translations and commentaries on Indian Buddhist texts that are bound to be of great value to scholars and practitioners alike. Art Engle has done an excellent job of translating difficult texts and supporting his insightful analyses with relevant citations of authoritative Buddhist sutras and commentaries. This is a volume to be read and studied with care.“—B. Alan Wallace, author of Embracing Mind and Dreaming Yourself Awake

“Art Engle’s translation of Vasubandhu’s ‘Summary of the Five Heaps’ with Sthiramati’s Commentary is a welcome contribution to the growing collection of solid English translations of works from the Indo-Tibetan Tengyur. His closely reasoned introduction shows convincingly how mastery of the analytic psychology of the Abhidharma is essential to the understanding and practice of the Mahayana path. This book is essential reading for practitioners and scholars alike.“—Robert A. F. Thurman

“Destined to be a keystone for the study of Tibetan Buddhism in English for years to come.“—New Age Retailer

“An absolute ‘must-have’ for intermediate to advanced Buddhist studies collections. Highly recommended.“—Library Bookwatch
