About The Author

Ally McCoist

Ally McCoist MBE is perhaps Scotland’s best-known footballer, having experienced highly successful careers as both a player and manager. Ally began his playing career at St. Johnstone, playing there for a while before moving to Sunderland. Returning to Scotland two years after joining Sunderland, Ally signed for Rangers, a move that would see him over time become the club’s record goal-scorer with 355 goals.

Ally also holds numerous other records for the club, including number of league goals scored, number of Scottish League Cup goals scored and most goals scored in European competitions. McCoist also featured heavily in Scottish international football during his career, gaining 61 caps and scoring 19 goals in the process.

Towards the end of his playing career, McCoist started his media career. Between 1996 and 2007, he was a team captain on the BBC sports quiz A Question of Sport. He is currently TalkSport’s Sports Breakfast host, as well as working with TNT Sports on their Champions League coverage as well as commentating on the World Cup and Euros for ITV.

In 2023, he won Best Pundit at the Sports Journalism Awards.
