Albert Wendt is a Samoan-born writer and an influential figure in New Zealand literature. He has published numerous novels, poetry anthologies and collections of short stories. He was professor of New Zealand and Pacific Literature at the University of Auckland from 1988 to 2006 and held the Citizens' Chair at the University of Hawai'i from 2004 to 2008. He is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of English at Auckland University.
