About The Author

Alan G. Wilson

Alan Wilson is affiliated with the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London, UK. His research interests encompass various facets of mathematical modeling and its application to planning concerning cities and regions. This includes areas such as demography, economic input-output modeling, transport, and locational structures. He is credited with introducing several model-building techniques now commonly used internationally, particularly in transport planning. He has made notable contributions through the rigorous application of accounts’ concepts in demography and economic modeling. His recent focus has been on utilizing dynamical systems theory to model urban structure evolution, initially detailed in “Catastrophe theory and bifurcation: applications to urban and regional systems.” Currently, his research, supported by ESRC and EPSRC grants, centers on the evolution of cities and the dynamics of global trade and migration.
