About The Author

Adrian Ashman

Adrian Ashman is Emeritus Professor of Education at The University of Queensland. He has a 40-year history of research and extensive publication in the fields of education and psychology, with a particular interest in students’ learning problems, and inclusive education policy and practices. His work has been recognised in Australia and overseas, exemplified by his election to the Fellowship of the American Psychological Association and also the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability.

Shiralee Poed is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at the University of Queensland. Her career spans more than 30 years and includes working across Australian states; and Catholic and independent primary, secondary and special schools. Assoc. Professor Poed’s expertise includes evidence-based interventions to support the inclusion of learners with disability, proactive and positive approaches to behaviour, reductions in student restraint and seclusion, and the elimination of disability discrimination. In 2023, Assoc. Professor Poed’s work was recognised by the International Association for Positive Behavior Support, when she was awarded the 2023 Leadership Award.
