Description

A missing teenage girl leads LA corporate HR exec-turned-private eye Chuck Restic to a high profile fight over a new art museum and a forty-year-old murder that won't stay in the past. Anyone could be behind the teenager's disappearance: her fitness-obsessed mom, switchblade-toting chauffeur, personal life coach, or even the girl herself. This is the second book in the Chuck Restic mystery series.

Adam Walker Phillips is a Los Angeles-based executive at a global financial services company who has endured countless PowerPoint decks, offsite visioning sessions, and synergistically minded cross-functional teams, all for the sake of his Chuck Restic mystery series. Phillips holds an MFA in film from Columbia University, and was also the winner of New Line Cinema's development award for his film, Bibles.

Critic Reviews

“"A number of professions have intriguing similarities to detective work--like reporter, or psychiatrist, or even historian. But an HR executive for a megacorporation? Chuck Restic, narrator of this densely packed novel, has been absorbing what Orwell called 'duckspeak'--'core deliverables,' 'key dependencies'--long enough to know that if he doesn't take this quacking seriously, he'll be at the mercy of people who do.... This one's all about style, and the juicy bits are all in the evocative writing--'the wonderfully sad pink of an early Sunday morning'--and the offbeat information: to see in darkness look out the corner of your eye." -- Booklist "Nuanced character portraits and slowly building suspense make this both an involving human story and a crackling crime yarn." -- Kirkus BR> "Chuck's sharp, wry insights into the absurdity of the corporate world reveal his existential need for more meaning in his life, and many scenes are genuinely funny... Phillips's clever blend of the absurd and the serious will have readers looking forward to Chuck's next adventure." -- Publishers Weekly”

About the Author

Adam Walker Phillips is the author of the Chuck Restic Mystery Series, which follows a burnt-out HR man who moonlights as a private detective. Phillips is a 20-year corporate vet who has endured countless PowerPoint decks, offsite retreats and visioning sessions, and synergies and synergistically-minded cross-functional teams in order to bring this mystery series to life. His sardonic take on corporate life brings a fresh voice to the classic detective novel. Phillips lives with his wife and children in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles.
