About The Author

Selwyn O. Rogers, Jr.

Selwyn Rogers, Jr., MD, MPH, FACS

Dr. Rogers is the section chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and the James E. Bowman, Jr., MD Professor at The University of Chicago Medicine. He also helped launch the Violence Recovery Program there. Dr. Rogers is an acclaimed trauma and critical care surgeon and public health expert. He has served in leadership capacities at health centers across the country, including Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Temple University School, and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. In 2024, he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Rogers earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard College, graduating magna cum laude. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship at BWH. Dr. Rogers also holds a master’s degree in public health from Vanderbilt University.
