Melissa Cristina Marquez is a Hispanic marine biologist, wildlife educator, professional speaker, and presenter, and she is very proud of it. She has given two TEDx talks about sharks and women scientists, and her work has been featured in NPR, Allure, Disney+, BBC, National Geographic, Good Morning America, and more. In 2021, Melissa was recognized on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, in the Science category, and on the InStyle 50 Badass Women list. Melissa holds a bachelor’s degree in Marine Ecology and Conservation from New College of Florida and a master’s degree in Marine Biology from Victoria University. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Mexico, Melissa seeks to highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion through her writing.
Maria Gabriela Gama is an illustrator born and raised in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, a place that inspires her to create colorful worlds. With a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, she began her professional career working in advertising, but soon discovered the magical world of illustration and fell in love with it! Since then, Maria has been living her dream illustrating children’s books, puzzles, toys, and more. She is passionate about her work and wishes to convey joy, representation, and positive change through her cheerful characters and vibrant colors.
