Elizabeth Smith Alexander was born in St. Andrews, Scotland, in 1954. Her family later moved to England. Her earliest memories involve creating a newspaper with a John Bull printing set. At age 16, she wrote and directed her first play, Osiris, which was performed by the Lower Fifth Drama Society at her school in Bolton, Lancashire.

Early in her writing career, she penned several short stories for a Scottish newspaper featuring “The Dover Street Sleuth,” Dixon Hawke. Several of her teenage poems were published in An Anthology of Verse.

Liz spent several decades as a freelance journalist, contributing to various UK magazines and newspapers such as Business Life (for British Airways), the Daily Mail, Marie Claire, and Supply Chain Management magazine. She also worked briefly as a presenter and reporter for radio and television, including the BBC.

In 2001, she moved to the United States, where she obtained her master’s degree and Ph.D. in educational psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. She has written and co-authored 17 internationally published, award-winning non-fiction books that have been translated into more than 20 languages.

In 2017, Liz relocated to Malaysia. She currently resides in Tanjung Bungah, Pulau Pinang, where she was inspired to begin writing novels.
