What They're Saying

Critics Review

“Adirondack Appetite is more than a collection of recipes—it’s a reflection of a place that shapes how we gather, cook, and connect. Susi Gott Séguret captures the spirit of the Adirondacks with a rare authenticity: the balance of simplicity and soul, the rhythm of the seasons, and the quiet joy of a meal shared after a day outdoors.” —Jane Ackerman, founder of ADK Taste and co-host of “ADK Talks”

“Imbibe the joie de vivre of this beautiful book. Susi not only inspires us to savor the rich influences and history of Adirondack cuisine, but deep connections to the people that enrich our lives if we pause and revel in our relationships with others through food, song, a sense of place and a warm welcome.” —Kathleen Peartree Moon, Chair, Board of Trustees, Sagamore Institute of the Adirondacks

“Susi has captured in words and images the full spectrum of eating (and drinking) in the Adirondacks, with historical context of its economic and cultural diversity. Her rich descriptions not only of food, but of friendship, singing, adventuring and the spirit of the Adirondack woods stir the magic that visitors new and old carry in their souls.” —Susan Hadden, architectural designer, illustrator and guideboat enthusiast

“As an avid outdoorsman, Adirondack hiker, and winter 46’er, as well as the son of a French chef and cookbook author, it is plain to see that Susi captures the essence of the rustic, old time, Adirondacks of lore. The images she conjures of misty mornings, the scents of the north country forest, and the sounds of unspoiled nature, lead easily into a collection of recipes guaranteed to evoke fond memories of good times with friends and family.” —Alan Kamman, hiker, skier, hunter, fisherman and bushwacker

“Susi’s description of the wild edibles in these woods paints such a picture of the bounty that can be found if one knows where to look. I, too, know where those Black Trumpets gather along that mossy shaded trail.” —Sarah Yeoman, artist, poet, teacher

“Susi has struck just the right mixture of sophisticated seasoning, available rustic ingredients, and easy-to-master directions! This book is a great gift idea for any Adirondack host and will be a welcomed addition to my kitchen and reminder of my ‘happy place.’” —Elizabeth Kendra-Gorey, MD
