About The Author

NisiOisiN

NisiOisin is one of Japan’s most successful authors. Born in 1981, he dropped out of Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto to pursue a career in story-telling. Initially aiming to be a comic artist, he focused on writing, eventually winning the 23rd Mephisto Prize for Kubikiri Cycle, recognizing his talent as a mystery writer at age 20. Since his 2002 debut, Nisio has written over 50 novels and numerous comics, becoming one of Japan’s top-selling authors, with over 5 million units sold since 2009. In both 2012 and 2014, he was Japan’s best-selling author. His works often explore themes of youth within familiar genres, blending mystery with comedy and touches of romance and/or the supernatural. He is a modern author who experiments with the Japanese language. Many of his works have been adapted into animated television series and films, including his best-known series, Monogatari and Katanagatari.
