About The Author
Mairi Hedderwick
Mairi Hedderwick is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and was a teacher before becoming a children’s book illustrator. She is best known as the author and illustrator of the Katie Morag series, which began in 1984. Katie Morag’s home on the fictional Hebridean island of Struay is inspired by Hedderwick’s lifelong association with the Isle of Coll. In 2013, Katie Morag was adapted into a successful Cbeebies TV series. Hedderwick has also written and illustrated numerous other books for children and adults, often set in the Highlands and Islands. In 2003, she received an Honorary Degree from Stirling University for her contribution to writing and illustration in Scotland, particularly for children. Her illustrated adult books include An Eye on the Hebrides, Highland Journey, Sea Change, Shetland Rambles, and The Last Laird of Coll.
