Val Wood
Val Wood is one of the UK’s most popular authors. She was born in the mining town of Castleford and moved to East Yorkshire as a child. She has lived in Hull and rural Holderness, the setting for many of her novels, and now resides in the market town of Beverley.
After winning the Catherine Cookson Prize for Fiction for her debut novel, The Hungry Tide, Val has gone on to achieve significant success. When not writing, she actively promotes libraries and supports numerous charities. In 2017, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Hull in recognition of her service and dedication to literature.
