Critics Review

“It’s a witty, personal, and heart-wrenching coming of age tale with a Portland punk rock twist…In a week full of big name superhero books that will no doubt hog the comics media headlines (including ours!), this very personal, very charming book is the one I’ll be thinking about the longest.“—Games Radar“This book is simply stunning, whether it’s tackling the real world, the art of Riley’s notebook, or the various witchy stories being spun throughout, every ounce of this book looks exceptional, and the colors and lettering make it feel as if it were alive.“—Comicbook.com

David Lopez

David Lopez is a cartoonist who graduated with a degree in illustration from the School of Art of Zaragoza in 1996. That same year, he began publishing comics in the fanzine “451,” where he connected with fellow artists from Zaragoza who would become long-term collaborators. His professional career in comics launched with “Espiral” in 1998, published under the Brut collection by La Cúpula.

Beginning in 2000, Lopez started working with major American publishers, first with Marvel Comics and later with DC Comics. He gained significant recognition for his work on titles such as “Fallen Angel” (2002), co-created with Peter David, and notably for “Catwoman” (2004), on which he drew an uninterrupted run of 30 issues, setting several publication records.

In 2008, he returned to Marvel for a more in-depth collaboration. His work on “Avengers: The Reunion” (2008) brought his passion for the main superheroes to Zaragoza, and he continued to draw for several of Marvel’s flagship series, including X-Men, Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy. His most high-profile contribution to Marvel mythology was his collaboration with writer Kelly Sue DeConnick on “Captain Marvel” (2014), a series that inspired the 2019 film of the same name.

In 2017, Lopez returned to creating his own original works with “BlackHand & IronHead.” This graphic novel was initially serialized digitally on Panel Syndicate before being published in print by Panini Italia (2018), Astiberri (2019) in Spain, Dargaud (2019) in France, and Image Comics (2020) in the United States.

David Lopez has worked with the world’s leading publishers, illustrating their most iconic characters and earning nominations for major national and American industry awards. Currently, in addition to drawing covers for major publishers, he is working on the second part of “BlackHand & IronHead” and is a regular host on the comic art channel “Streaming de dibujantes.”
