“It’s like a pill, that’s a bitter pill, that’s sweet, sweetly coated and easy to swallow.“—Craig Thompson

“I wouldn’t be in comics if it wasn’t for Mike Allred.”—Matt Fraction

Madman is my favorite comic ever, for sure.”—Nick Derington

“I read Mike’s book and I felt better, like I actually felt good in my heart. Tell me that’s not art.”—Brian Michael Bendis

About The Author

Michael Allred

Michael Allred grew up in the 60’s and 70’s surrounded by the best in pop culture, including a steady diet of music, movies, and comic books. His early obsessions included The Beatles, Bond, and Batman.

He continues to be involved in film and music, serving as the lead singer and guitarist for The Gear. However, comic books have always been a seminal source of joy for Allred, and that joy remains the main ingredient in most of his work.

Allred first tasted success in comics with his wildly popular Madman series, which is currently being developed for a live-action film with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. His earlier work from Grafix Muzik was turned into the cult hit movie G-Men from Hell, directed by Christopher Coppola.

Other notable works include Red Rocket 7, a history of Rock and Roll told in the context of a sci-fi adventure story; the Madman spin-off The Atomics; and his magnum opus, The Golden Plates, where he is illustrating the entire Book of Mormon.

Allred credits his wife and creative partner, Laura Allred, as the secret to his success. She is considered one of the best colorists in the business.
