Melissa Hart
About the Author
Melissa Hart grew up in Los Angeles with her younger brother, Mark, who has Down syndrome. She is the author of two novels for middle-school readers, Avenging the Owl and Daisy Woodworm Changes the World, both of which feature main characters with Down syndrome. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Smithsonian, Slate, CNN, and many other publications.
Hart is also the author of Better with Books: 500 Diverse Books to Ignite Empathy and Encourage Self-Acceptance in Tweens and Teens.
She lives in Oregon with her husband and daughter, along with their dog, five cats, and four chickens. Melissa is an Oregon Master Naturalist and enjoys kayaking, hiking, bicycling, and cross-country skiing.
