About The Author
Marvel Various
Michael Fleisher
Michael Fleisher carved an indelible place in comics history in 1974 with a series of Spectre stories known for their graphic violence. During this period, he also collaborated with Steve Ditko on the offbeat hero Shade the Changing Man and had a long run on Ghost Rider with artist Don Perlin.
Jim Starlin
Jim Starlin is celebrated for introducing Thanos, Shang-Chi, and numerous other memorable characters. After seemingly killing Adam Warlock and Thanos in an early Marvel cosmic storyline, for which he won two Eagle Awards, Starlin wrote Marvel’s first graphic novel, The Death of Captain Marvel. He later returned to Marvel to write Silver Surfer, resurrecting Warlock and Thanos. These characters became central to a vast miniseries franchise he wrote and/or penciled, including Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War, Infinity Crusade, Infinity Abyss, Warlock and the Infinity Watch, and Thanos. Starlin continued the Mad Titan’s saga in a recent series of original graphic novels.
Don Perlin
A creative stalwart, Don Perlin poured his talent into long-running series like Ghost Rider and Defenders. His work spanned virtually every discipline in comic books, including penciling, inking, character creation, editing, and writing. A student of Burne Hogarth, Perlin began his career in 1951 drawing horror comics for various publishers and penciling Will Eisner’s The Spirit. After military service, he returned to comics with Harvey in the late ‘50s and Charlton in the ‘60s. In 1973, he began a long association with Marvel, finishing John Buscema’s art on Thor and inking several titles. He took over Werewolf by Night from Mike Ploog, penciling and inking it for two years, and also penciled and inked the supernatural adventures of Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider, becoming closely identified with the “monster biker.” In the ‘80s, he drew Defenders and Marvel’s adaptation of Hasbro’s Transformers. His early ‘90s work on Valiant’s Solar, Man of the Atom and Bloodshot was highly popular before he entered semi-retirement.
Carmine Infantino
Carmine Infantino (d. 2013) made his mark at DC Comics after earlier work at Timely Comics (Marvel’s predecessor), Fawcett, and Hillman. He helped usher in the industry’s Silver Age with the reintroduction of The Flash, co-creating the Elongated Man and several members of the Flash’s Rogues’ Gallery within the character’s title. His 1961 story “Flash of Two Worlds,” which introduced the Earth-1/Earth-2 concept and reshaped the DC Universe, earned Infantino two of his twelve Alley Awards. After serving as DC’s art director and publisher, Infantino returned to penciling on various titles. For Marvel, he delivered notable runs on Nova, Spider-Woman, and Star Wars, with brief stints on Daredevil, Ghost Rider, and Iron Man. He also drew Superman vs. the Amazing Spider-Man, the historic first Marvel/DC crossover.
Pat Broderick
During the 1970s, Pat Broderick depicted cosmic sagas as an artist on Captain Marvel and Micronauts. At DC, he penciled Captain Atom, Firestorm, and Green Lantern, among others. He co-created Tim Drake, the third Robin, on Batman. Returning to Marvel, he worked on Alpha Flight and Doom 2099, also contributing to the short-lived Future Comics and revisiting Micronauts for Devil’s Due Publishing.
