Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, later becoming a cartoonist and eventually an art director at a prominent advertising agency. In 1978, Eric created a story about a small puppy to read to his son at bedtime, and Spot was born. He published Where’s Spot? in 1980, an interactive children’s book featuring a pioneering lift-the-flap format, a simple story, and charming, quirky illustrations. Its immediate success led him to become a full-time author, and Spot books have since been enjoyed by children worldwide, alongside adaptations in audio books, animation, toys, and games.
