Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning to become a cartoonist and then an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, which marked the birth of Spot. He published Where’s Spot? in 1980, a groundbreaking interactive children’s book featuring a lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and endearing, whimsical illustrations. The book’s instant success prompted him to dedicate himself fully to writing, and Spot books have since been cherished by children globally, appearing in various formats including audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
