Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)
Eric Hill was the creator of the beloved children’s character, Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning to a career as a cartoonist and eventually serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Hill conceived a bedtime story for his son, featuring a small puppy, and thus Spot was created. His groundbreaking interactive book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This pioneering work combined a lift-the-flap format with a simple narrative and endearing, unique illustrations.
