Malorie Blackman
Malorie Blackman is the author of over seventy books for children and young adults, including the acclaimed Noughts & Crosses series, Thief, and the science-fiction thriller Chasing the Stars. Her work has been adapted for stage and television, with notable productions including a BAFTA-award-winning BBC adaptation of Pig-Heart Boy and a stage adaptation of Noughts & Crosses by Sabrina Mahfouz. A major BBC production of Noughts & Crosses features a soundtrack curated by Roc Nation.
In recognition of her significant contributions to children’s literature, Malorie was honored with the Eleanor Farjeon Award in 2005 and received an OBE in 2008. She served as the Children’s Laureate from 2013 to 2015. Her recent work includes writing for the Doctor Who series and the publication of Crossfire, the fifth novel in her Noughts & Crosses series, in 2019.
Dapo Adeola is an illustrator, author, and character designer who was awarded Illustrator of the Year at The British Book Awards in 2022. He made a significant impact on the picture book world with his debut, Look Up!, written by Nathan Bryon, which won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2020. Dapo has also illustrated books such as My Dad is a Grizzly Bear and My Mum Is a Lioness by Swapna Haddow, and collaborated with Malorie Blackman on the picture book We’re Going to Find the Monster!
In 2021, Dapo made his author debut with the picture book Hey You!: An Empowering Celebration of Growing Up Black, featuring 18 talented Black British illustrators, which also won Illustrated Book of the Year at The British Book Awards in 2022. He was also announced as the winner of the inaugural Illustrator of the Year Award at The Laugh Out Loud Book Awards (the Lollies) in 2023.
Born in Britain with Nigerian heritage, Dapo is a strong advocate for equal representation in the creative arts. He currently resides in Manchester.
