Barn the Spoon
Barnaby Carder, also known as “Barn the Spoon,” is a master craftsman spoon carver. He is the co-organiser of Spoonfest, an annual three-day spoon carving festival held in Edale, Derbyshire. Barnaby is also the founder of The Green Wood Guild, London’s centre for traditional wood craft, which offers a range of courses and workshops.
Barnaby has been carving since the age of 12. After earning a degree in biology from Bristol University, he apprenticed himself to a cabinet maker specializing in green woodwork. He then spent several years working and living in forests before relocating to London. There, he opened a spoon shop in Hackney to share his passion for green woodwork.
He is the author of Spon: A Guide to Spoon Carving and the New Wood Culture.
