About The Author
Jill Shaw Ruddock
Jill Shaw Ruddock is the author of “The Second Half of Your Life,” a book written for women over 50. After the book’s publication, she founded The Second Half Foundation, a charity aimed at tackling social isolation and promoting positive aging. The first Second Half Centre opened in 2012 and has since engaged thousands of members and volunteers.
The Second Half Foundation aims to address isolation and loneliness for individuals over 50 by providing activities, teaching new skills, and promoting the “Five a Day” approach to successful aging.
Jill was recognized as the Veuve Clicquot “Woman of the Year Tribute” winner in 2011, received the Jewish Care Woman of Distinction Award in 2012, and the Common Good Award from Bowdoin College in 2012. She was also named one of Kensington’s 25 Most Inspirational People and listed in Libertine magazine’s Top 100 Dynamic Women.
Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, she earned a degree in Politics from Bowdoin College. She began her career in advertising and publishing before moving to London to co-head The Government Research Corporation. She later joined Alex Brown & Sons, eventually becoming the Managing Director and Head of their London office. After retiring from finance, she joined the boards of The Donmar Warehouse and The Mousetrap Theatre Projects. She also served on the board of Bowdoin College Museum of Art and was a trustee of Bowdoin College for ten years. She is married to Sir Paul Ruddock and has two daughters, Sophie and Isabella.
