Philip Pullman is one of the most acclaimed writers working today. He is best known for the His Dark Materials trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass), which has been named one of the top 100 novels of all time by Newsweek and one of the all-time greatest novels by Entertainment Weekly. Pullman is the author of many other much-lauded novels. Samuel West is an English stage, film and television actor. West made his London stage debut in 1989 at the Orange Tree Theatre, performed at the National Theatre and spent two seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 1991, he starred opposite Anthony Hopkins in Howards End and for this role, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 1993 BAFTA Film Awards. He also appeared in Notting Hill and is a familiar face on television appearing in Midsomer Murders, Waking the Dead and Poirot. He appeared in the BBC production of Cambridge Spies and is also a reader, performer and director of radio dramas for BBC Radio.
