Michael Thomas teaches and researches in digital business communication and language learning Technologies and directs the MA TESOL in blended learning in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Central Lancashire. Until recently he was full professor specialising in digital technologies for language education at Nagoya University of Commerce & Business in Japan. His research interests are in ICT in education, task-based learning, digital literacies and digital technologies, and the philosophy of technology. His recent publications have examined the use of social media on communication and learning. He is editor of the International Journal of Virtual and Personal Learning Environments and associate editor of the International Journal of Computer Assisted Language Learning and Teaching. Since 2007 he has organized an international symposium series on digital technologies and education in Japan focusing on Web 2 applications and social media.
