Publisher Description

Created by illustrator Kevin Jay Stanton, Botanica is a 78-card tarot deck featuring vibrant traditional paintings that delve into the lore and symbolism of the plant kingdom. Sprouting from years of research into botany, mythology, and history, Botanica marries the tradition of Tarot to a lexicon far more ancient: the natural vocabulary of life on Earth. The deck features the complete set of major and minor arcana as plants, all painted in luscious and colorful acrylics and paired with the objects from their suit. This box set includes the full deck in a gilded drawer box, a 96-page hardcover explaining the symbolism, research, and process behind Botanica, a golden dandelion charm, an embroidered patch, four terrarium stickers, and six tarot-sized postcards.

Author Biography

Kevin Jay Stanton is a freelance illustrator with a green thumb and penchant for creating more work than one person can handle. He spent his childhood playing a healthy dose of video games, as well as reading a ton of fairytales, mythology, and books on nature. Nowadays he does basically the same thing, but draws them too. With Annie Stoll, he co-created, curated, and art directed the second most funded comic anthology project on Kickstarter, 1001 Knights.

Long Description

First printing: 3,500 copies. In May 2020, Botanica became the most funded tarot deck Kickstarter of all time, racking in over $700,000. Creator Kevin Jay Stanton has a strong social media presence, and multiple review copies will be sent to prominent tarot influencers and personalities. The box set includes a number of extras, including a beautiful, heavily image-based hardcover book detailing the research, process, and symbolism behind Botanica. Botanica's focus on the mythology and folklore of the plant kingdom is a rich and previously unexplored lens through which to depict the tarot. Very strong gift potential. Exhibition of the artwork planned at Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles.
