Once again, acclaimed photographer Fay Looney has produced an engaging tribute to the New Zealand way of life, capturing the distinctive qualities of both landscape and people in a new hardback gift/souvenir book. The Real New Zealand is a photographic journey from Northland to Stewart Island in the uniquely postcard-style that Fay is known for - that special light at dawn on a deserted beach, brightly painted murals on sheds and barns, exotic body art and sculpture, and people enjoying the simple outdoor pleasures of fishing, horse-riding and camping in holiday spots around the country. Fay has an innate sense of what will appeal to New Zealanders and visitors alike, approaching her craft with a quirky charm and humour.

Fay Looney has been photographing New Zealand for over 35 years. She was the first woman president of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photographers (NZIPP) and she has won numerous awards for her work, including the Cathay Pacific Travel Photographer of the Year (2005). She is the author of New Zealand: Land of Many Contrasts and the highly successful It Must be New Zealand, and New Zealand through the Goalposts, all published by New Holland. At 74 years old, she continues to shoot pictures at every opportunity and her distinctive images are regularly licensed by Tourism New Zealand to promote the country.
