This is a true story about the author's grandchildren. They had had a tough start to the school year. Sparkles had found school to be fun, and she learns fast. Quinkleton, on the other hand, has to really concentrate and work hard to do his schoolwork. It doesn't always come easy. He needs room to breathe and quiet so he can concentrate. This day was a special day because their mom had been promising them a great surprise if they both did all their homework for that semester. Both of the children loved to read. They loved the stories from the Bible. Their mother read every night to them. This day was so different. Quinkleton was totally out of character. Sparkles was teasing him nonstop. When one emotion hits the other, you can guess what happened. It was an explosion of emotion. Now after all the yelling, would they still get that special surprise? This was the question on Quinkleton's mind. And if they got it, when would his mother give it to them? Their mother had to explain to them everything that happened and why it shouldn't have happened.
