About the Author

Donna R. Falvo Ph.D. has over 30 years of experience as a registered nurse, licensed psychologist, and certified rehabilitation counselor. During her tenure at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, she served as clinician, professor and researcher at the School of Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine where she was the Director of Behavioral Science, and later served as Coordinator of the Rehabilitation Counseling Program at the Rehabilitation Institute. Most recently she was Clinical Professor in the Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She is past president of the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association, and a former Mary Switzer Scholar. She served as Dimension Expert with the National Research Corporation/Picker Institute, Lincoln, Nebraska from 2005-2008. She is the author of numerous articles, book chapters, in addition to authoring the four previous editions of Medical and Psychosocial Aspects of Chronic Illness and Disability and authoring the book entitled, Effective Patient Education: A Guide to Increased Adherence, currently in its 4th edition.
