Description

Strange things are happening. Dogs are the only creatures in the world that are awake, and they can communicate through thought waves. Best of all, they can swoosh through the air. Pongo, Missis and the family swoosh up to London to see if they can help sort out what’s going on. Is it Cruella de Vil, up to her old tricks? Or is it something or someone far more sinister? The Hundred and One Dalmations is an all-time classic children’s book. Famously adapted by Walt Disney Studios, it continues to be one of the most popular children’s books long after the author’s death. The Starlight Barking is another exciting adventure by Dodie Smith – not just for 101 Dalmations, but for every other kind of dog, too!

About the Author

Dodie Smith was born in 1896 in Lancashire and she was one of the most successful female dramatists of her generation. Her first novel, I Capture the Castle, was written when she lived in America during the 1940's and marked her crossover debut from playwright to novelist. The novel became an immediate success and was produced as a play in 1954. She has written numerous other novels but is best-known today for The Hundred and One Dalmatians, a story for younger readers. The Hundred and One Dalmatians became the basis of two Disney Films. Delia Corrie is a highly experienced and versatile actress and voice-over artist. She trained at RADA and has worked widely in the theatre, including in the West End, Hampstead Theatre Club, Liverpool Playhouse and the Library and Royal Exchange Theatres in Manchester. Her TV credits are too numerous to list, but have included Coronation Street, Sea View and Jossy’s Giants. Her extensive radio work includes many plays, documentaries, poetry readings and short stories. She was the female voice for On This Day, BBC Radio’s six-days-a-week archive programme.
