About the Author

Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte were born in Yorkshire between 1816 and 1820. They wrote and shared stories from a young age, and in 1847, Charlotte's Jane Eyre and Emily's Wuthering Heights were both published. All three also worked as governesses and teachers, experiences which inspired Anne's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848) and Charlotte's Villette (1853). They died in their twenties and thirties, leaving their father the only surviving family member.
